Founded in 1971 SWM was first called SVVM. The name originates from the surnames of its founders Sironi, Vergani and two places in Italy roughly 30 km apart - Vimercate and Milano. In the 70s and 80s the company produced Enduro, Motocross, Offroad and Trial motorbikes. SWM ceased to function in 1984, but was revived in 2014 by the Chinese Shineray Group. Today SWM focuses on a slightly different range of motorcycles including the Supermotard and Naked range.
